Freestyler Footballer at Fulwood An event set up by Deepdale Invincible saw World and European Freestyle Football Champion John Farnworth drop into Fulwood Leisure Centre on Monday 18th August as part of the leisure centre’s summer holidays activities. Longridge lad John and young apprentices Michael Hindle and Jak Gregory wowed the children aged between 8 and 12 years old with individual shows as well as a bit of an impromptu group exhibition. John also took time to show some of the lucky volunteers some tricks and answer questions ranging from what footballers he had met and whether he was a millionaire! Deepdale Invincible Editor Blake said: “I’m delighted that John offered to come down and put on a bit of a show for the kids. This is the sort of initiative I’m really interested in pushing as part of the fanzine.” According to Fulwood Leisure centre organisers, the children were in so much awe that it was the most attentive they had been all day! Blake added: “I hope this is only the start of many activities Deepdale Invincible can get involved with this season.”

Helping to Fly the Flag… Deepdale Invincible was on hand to help hundreds of Preston young people celebrate the official handover of the Olympics to London 2012 on Sunday 24th August at Moor Park. The event, including a National Football Museum stall and performance by freestyler John Farnworth, culminated in Olympic gold medal winner Tessa Sanderson helping to raise the flag on behalf of Preston. During the afternoon, Moor Park hosted a sports and dance spectacular with the annual Streetwise soccer tournament and StreetFeet dance displays, including a performance from Deepdale Invincible’s very on Deepdalettes (and a cameo onstage by its Editor!). Deepdale Invincible’s involvement was a last minute affair but nonetheless enjoyable for all involved, largely due to the part of Iain Mackie, Streetwise Development Officer for Preston City Council. Editor Blake Welton said: “It was an honour to be invited to be a small part of this and I didn’t see anyone go away from the event unhappy. Thanks must go to Iain for inviting me and the Deepdalettes down and congratulations on a great event.” “I hope Deepdale Invincible and Sport Development can work together in the future.”
